When it comes to fashion, we've got a lot to thank Diane Keaton for. In her 50-something years of being in the public eye, the actor has fed us a reel of looks that speaks to a distinct and unwavering personal style. Not once has there been a moment of weakness in the form of a glitzy dress. Age has only fortified and emboldened her style choices; which have always leaned heavily on bold tailoring, exaggerated shapes, theatrical details and like all good wardrobes, a healthy does of Comme des Garçons.
We've seen flickers of this in her on screen wardrobe too. It would be a crime to gloss over the cultural impact of Annie Hall. Especially since waistcoats and fat ties have been on the rise. And where would we be without the cosy style cues of Erica in Something's Gotta Give? Coastal grandmotherless, that's for sure. Her love of neutral tones, like beige and monochrome bled through the turtlenecks and blazers she wore in The First Wives Club. For future reference, Diane Keaton is proof that sex can be embodied in a suit, just as much as it can be with a slinky dress. She's never been one to shirk away from a trilby or good bowler hat, and for both these reasons she has our respect.
Nowadays, it's wide-legged jeans and balloon skirts that she favours. And to this day, suits are her bread and butter. We've gotta hand it to the woman, she really just gets it. Below, find Diane Keaton's best style moments, which pair nicely with her own Keaton wine.
