On the eve of December 14 - technically early morning on December 15 at 3:16am - we welcome in a New Moon.
But this New Moon isn't just any old New Moon, it's 2020 after all and this year has not been ordinary in the slightest. In addition to the Halloween Blue Moon and the December Grand Conjunction, this particular lunation is special - it comes with a Solar Eclipse. Unfortunately, it won't be visible for those of us situated in Australia, but its impacts will be felt none the less.
This particular New Moon falls in the sign of Sagittarius. Since the Sun is also sitting in Sagittarius, we'll be doubling down on Sagittarius energy over the next few days. It's very welcome, especially as we look to wrap up a tumultuous year. Sagittarius is the explorer sign, one that welcomes adventure, challenges and always has an open mind. So an enhanced dose of Sagittarius energy is exactly what we need to help us prepare for what 2021 will bring.
New Moons are a time of refresh and rebirth. A time to clear out the old and usher in the new. This is a time to release the reins of things that may have been holding you back and walk freely into the next period of the year. Since this New Moon comes with a Solar Eclipse, there's a few surprises in the mix. This is a relatively rare occurrence that often causes sudden change.
Solar Eclipses always occur at the time of a New Moon, so think of the energy of a Solar Eclipse as that of the New Moon on steroids. Where New Moons encourage a refresh, a Solar Eclipse will force a shift. So you will need to fully embrace Sagittarius's adventurous spirit to prepare yourself for what's in store. You'd do well to happily accept the changes that come to you, even if they're not what you originally had planned. Don't try to fight against it. After all, when life give you lemons...
At this time, Mercury will also be sitting in Sagittarius. With our beloved communication planet joining the Sun and Moon in challenge-loving Sagittarius, you should have an easier time opening up, throwing caution to the wind and talking through the way you feel.
If you want to read into this lunation in more detail, we can see the Moon making a slightly troubling angle with Neptune - which can often instil doubt and intimidate us head of big decisions. But it's largely negated by triple dose of risk-taking Sagittarius energy. All in all, consider this celestial event a positive turning point and try to open yourself up to possibilities it can offer you to start afresh in 2021.
