A day in the life of a ‘RUSSH’ Executive Fashion Director

In partnership with Uber One

The life of a Fashion Director is multi-faceted – and certainly not as overtly glamorous as the movies make it out to be (sorry Devil Wears Prada). Of course, a typical day involves plenty of beautiful clothes, but it also requires lots of logistical planning – darting from show room to show room, ordering lunch on the move, organising loans and returns – it's all a day in the life.

RUSSH Executive Fashion Director Hannah Cooper takes us inside a typical day in her life at the RUSSH HQ and around Sydney, passing along her best insider tips and tricks, and sharing her favourite moments from throughout the day.

10am – shoot returns

Day starts out with the unglamorous side of being a stylist: shoot returns. We are in the midst of shooting our upcoming September issue, and that means we have a lot of sample returns to fulfil on a daily basis.

The returns process is like a well oiled machine nowadays; label, seal, send. But when supplies get low and couriers have been booked, an insider's tip is to utilise Uber’s Grocery delivery service to provide last-minute sticky tape when we are in a rush. It's a handy trick for when you're strapped for time and can't leave the office for a grocery field trip.

12pm – press room viewings

With the title of Executive Fashion Director comes the responsibility to keep up to date with what is new, fresh and exciting in the fashion industry. Today, I have back-to back press showings, all at different locations around Sydney, and it’ll be a tight squeeze to get everywhere. Uber comes in clutch once again with Uber Reserve, allowing me to schedule a ride ahead of time. It's how I ensure I have a ride waiting for me, ready to keep me on schedule and on time to my next appointment. No waiting for drivers nearby, there will be one at my door the minute I need to leave!

My first appointment of the day was at the Known Agency, where I got to view the latest collections from some of Australia and New Zealand’s most exciting brands like Wynn Hamlyn, Maggie Marilyn and Meadowlark Jewellery. This foiled tie from Kiwi designer Rory William Docherty has caught my eye and won’t leave my brain – and of course, who could forget this pink and yellow flouncy bubble dress from Acler that closed their AFW 2024 runway show back in May?

3pm – Prada show room visit

Next, I have to quickly get straight to another viewing and catch my reserved ride to the CBD. We love a Tesla ride! Making it in perfect timing, I head to a Prada showing with our Contributing Editor Kitty Callaghan to view the latest runway collection. In love with the AW24 collection and the vintage-inspired silhouettes, particularly the knickerbockers and petticoats! And of course, a visit to Prada isn’t complete without a Marchesi chocolate on the way out; a perfect precursor to lunch.

4pm – back to the office for a late lunch

Back to the office and heading into back-to-back meetings with the team, it was imperative that I browsed Uber Eats on the ride back, or I would simply miss my lunch window. I opted for a teriyaki salmon bowl on this cold winter day, to give me fuel for the next few hours of work ahead. But while I'm at it – my mind is already on dinner. What am I going to cook? I have no idea but the pantry is bare. Before my last call, I browse the selection of local grocery stores near me on Uber Eats once more to ensure I don’t head home without all the necessary ingredients I need for a hearty dinner. It arrived just in time for me to pack up my things and head home after a day of running around. And luckily, despite my Uber app getting a serious workout throughout the day, I feel good knowing I'm making savings and unlocking special offers through my Uber One membership.
