In partnership with Valentino
Sometimes, people come into your life that make you feel electric. It is rare when it is true, but when it is, the feelings of unbridled euphoria know no bounds. This is the feeling Australian pop group Cub Sport bring to so many. Vulnerable, tender lyrics married with synth-driven sonics that so many young queer folks can find a home in, grounded in a love story between front man Tim Nelson and vocalist and keyboardist Sam Netterfield that has inspired and touched the hearts of so many.
This feeling, the electric energy Cub Sport posses, is just what Valentino's Le Progrès Paris 3ème Arrondissement Spring 2022 collection is similarly grounded in. House codes are reimagined into key motifs. Starting with the neon universe, a complete new and fluro colourful world, applied to several prints or embroideries all characterised by the same neon colour shades of pink, black and blue. The Valentino neon universe expands out of sport and casual items, and can be seen for Spring 2022 on a more formal wardrobe in order to give motifs a stronger street taste.
The House's most recognisable motif, the Optical Valentino, has been offered throughout the collection, alongside Valentino's embroidery savoir faire, applied most notably to Valentino Utopia, a new seasonal animation world embodied by fantastic animals and butterflies. The infamous Valentino Garavani Stud Sign returns, and is expanded through the introduction of two new styles which boldly portray the unconventional image of the Maison; and can be seen below, where Nelson and Netterfield wear the Valentino Garavani Stud Sign Bag.

Here, Cub Sport is seen as Valentino Le Progrès Paris 3ème Arrondissement Spring 2022 collection embodied, clad in the collection, with so many themes mirrored from a fashion and music standpoint. Electricity, authenticity, euphoric, and boundary pushing. Below, Tim Nelson speak with us about his relationship to fashion, self-expression, and what makes him feel electric.

What is your relationship to fashion?
Fashion brings me a lot of joy! It’s the way we choose to present ourselves to the world and such a fun form of expression.
How does fashion intersect with your music? Is it a part of who you are as performers?
It’s all self-expression, for me they feel similarly inspired. Our creative vision for Cub Sport goes beyond the music – visuals and fashion are a huge part of creating something immersive. And the right look can transform your on-stage energy!
What does self-expression mean to you in 2021?
Presenting myself outwardly in whatever way makes me feel best on the inside.
What are you bringing into 2022?
Levelled-up Cub Sport.

What does the Valentino Le Progrès Paris 3ème Arrondissement Spring 2022 collection feel like to you? Did you connect with it?
The collection feels comfortable and fun! It’s quite different to how we usually style ourselves but it felt good – especially the sparkly pink set.
Valentino Utopia is one of the codes included in the Le Progrès Paris 3ème Arrondissement Spring 2022 collection. What does utopia mean to you?
The first thing that comes to mind is the ‘Society if _____’ memes with the chrome buildings, hovercrafts and perfectly manicured lawn. The idea is peace for everyone right!
What are you looking forward to?
I’m looking forward to playing shows again. Performing live is one of the things that makes me feel most connected – I’ve really missed that.
