Courtney Love has taken a moment away from her usual acoustic Instagram covers and recording her first solo album since 2004 to pay tribute to Britney Spears and support the #freebritney movement, and oh! How pure it is.
Covering Spears’ song Lucky on Instagram, Love tears up towards the end of the song, claiming, “I’m actually crying. I fucking hate this when it happens to me.” While Love never explicitly mentions Spears, or even captions the video posted, the song is about how constructive the life of a pop star can be, and was released off the back of Spears recent conservatorship hearing, where Spears pleaded to have her father removed as her conservator - which, following her devastating testimony of abuse, her request to have her father removed from his role overseeing her conservatorship, was denied.
Manager Sam Lutfi used to manage both of the artists at one point, but according to The New Yorker, Love called Lutfi a “street hustler” and filed a restraining order against him in 2018 after the manager told her to “go choke on opiates and die”. Currently, Lutfi is also the subject of a restraining order filed by Jamie Spears and the conservatorship, according to The New Yorker, under the pretense that Lufti “has attempted to incite fans who have used the social-media hashtag #FreeBritney to criticize the control James Spears and the court have had over the pop star for the past 11 years.” Lutfi is now barred for five years from contacting Britney, her family, or making disparaging statements about them online, The New Yorker reported.
I digress, watch Love's heartfelt and candid tribute to the pop star below. If you are new here on the internet, you can read about the #freebritney movement here, and her conservatorship, here.
