In the fashion circuit, Collina Strada were one of those brands where - if you knew, you knew. Seemingly reflective of our bizarre times, designer Hillary Taymour travels us back to the 90s, marrying the real world with fantasy in an Animorphs inspired collection titled Collina-mals for F/W 2021.

 

 

Safe to say if you were a child of the 90s or early 00s, the book series Animorphs needs very little introduction. Partnering with the illustrator of the Animoprhs series David Burroughs Mattingly and in collaboration with Charlie Engman and Freeka Tet - the new collection has Collina Strada morphing her star cast into reptiles, cats, birds and insects - unapologetically challenging the audience to rethink what a fashion presentation means and needs to look like in 2021.

 

 

With a high energy level soundtrack scored by David Proust as a back drop, creative director and designer Hillary Taymour goes beyond our wildest dreams and truly breathes new meaning to what inclusivity and diversity needs to look like within the fashion industry. Honouring people from all different walks of life and casting models from all different corners in diversity, Taymour offers us both a collection and presentation that is hand in hand transparent, honest, progressive and sustainable.

Collina-mals aside - Taymour pushes the boundaries in fashion further, pushing her work to be one that honours and aligns with environmental preservation and sustainability. Sourcing leftover fabrics and utilising recycled and up-cycled garments and materials, Taymour fuses all of these working parts together in producing a season that is strong and bold and all about making a statement. With offbeat styling, mixing and matching contrasting prints and unpredictable layering - the result? Collina Strada stays true to their word and delivers us yet, another, high dosage of eclecticism that the brand is becoming very well known for.
