At exactly 8:01pm AEDT on December 15, our final Full Moon for 2024 arrives in Gemini.
Also known as the Cold Moon, this name comes from colonial American and European sources who named this Moon for the deep winter that would arrive in the Northern Hemisphere at this time. Of course, for those in the Southern Hemisphere, things will be warming up, so the name can seem slightly odd.
As this moon is the one that falls near the summer solstice, it will appear especially big. Moons that sit lower in the sky tend to appear bigger than others. And since the Moon is always sits lowest in the sky during the summer, we'll be treated to quite a sight when the Moon rises just after sunset.
What to expect astrologically from the Full Moon in Gemini
As our Full Moon falls in Gemini, our inner selves will be deeply influenced by the energy of this Air sign. Geminis are jugglers. It is the sign of dualities, one that likes to explore a number of different hobbies and passions in tandem. If you know a Gemini, you'll know this sign could strike up a conversation with a pot plant. A natural communicator that thrives on high energy situations, this is the energy we need as we enter the final weeks of the year.
Full Moons are already high energy moments as they represent the energetic peak of the Moon Cycle. A point when emotions run high and moods can swing like a pendulum. Gemini does us a service here. It invigorates our inner selves, allowing us to experience the chaos of events season as energising rather than exhausting. Work Christmas party? No problem. Your Sagittarius friend's birthday dinner. Let's go. Multiple family holiday events? Gemini will have you enjoying every minute.
At the same time, this Moon may have us asking ourselves some bigger questions. A moon in Gemini is about learning. It's considered an intellectual placement, one that activates curiosity and a desire to consider the future. You might need to choose to leave parts of your life behind that you're not quite ready to let go of. Here, you will need to find a balance between your head and your heart and understand what's necessary for your overall prosperity and wellness into the new year.
What to watch our for during the Gemini Full Moon this December?
This will be a bold, brash and high energy moment. Possibly the worst nightmare of our Taurus and Cancer folks, who would rather be cosied up in their living room rewatching a comfort film. Your only choice will be to lean into the moment. When the parties and events have all dried up, you'll miss them. Enjoy it while it lasts.
Jupiter is conjunct with the Moon in Gemini at this time and this can often lead to a heightened sense of confidence. While this is not a bad thing, it does mean that you should take some extra time to make big decisions. Look before you leap so to speak. Now is the time to take an extra day or two to really read over that contract. Double check all dates before you book those flights. And maybe hold off on that risky message sitting in your drafts.
Especially, Gemini's ruler – Mercury – will be at the very tail end of it retrograde as this Moon hits. Whenever a Mercury Retrograde is in play, it's always best practice to measure twice and cut once. Communications are easily misinterpreted at this time, so it's unwise to let an inflated sense of bravado have you do something you might regret later.
Ultimately, this Moon wants us to embrace the social side of ourselves and do so fully - even if there will be a few bigger decisions to be made along the way. Take each day as it comes, and enjoy this moment shared with those closest to you.
