Fashion and art girlies who love themselves a cult art book – think Sofia Coppola's new retrospective, or Petra Collins and Alexa Demie's collaborative tome – we have some exciting news for your coffee table stack. Fashion darling and eternal it-girl Chloë Sevigny has channeled her inner 'snow queen' for a series of images featured in a debut fairytale book Conversations With Angels from English-Bulgarian label Chopova Lowena. And let's just say, we couldn't think of a more perfect pairing for the occasion. In a word? We're obsessed.
The book is a psychedelic and eerie reimagining of the classic Hans Christian Andersen tale The Snow Queen. Chopova Lowena's version is written by Nigerian-American artist Precious Okoyomon, and sees its star, Sevigny, enter a mythical new realm looking every bit the part in Chopova Lowena’s Fall Winter 23 collection.
On the delightfully pink-and-mint-green cover, Sevigny don a sheer white lace blouse in a halo of white light, where elsewhere she appears more sinister in one of Chopova Lowena's signature plaid dresses, waist clasped by a corset and wrists cuffed in ruffles.
Take a first sneak peek at Chopova Lowena's contemporary take on the fairytale below.
Who are Chopova Lowena?
For those out of the know, the label was started in 2017 by Emma Chopova and Laura Lowena, graduates of the MA program at Central Saint Martins.
Their label is largely rooted in the traditions and motifs of British and Bulgarian craftsmanship, and has grown something of a cult following (they count Dua Lipa, Charli XCX and Madonna as customers) for their grungy-yet-colourful, blooming wool skirts, often suspended from thick leather belts dangling with carabiners and key chains. Their hand-embroidered Bulgarian patterns and plaid dresses earmarking the brand's sensibilities.
Where can I buy it?
You can purchase Chopova Lowena's debut fairytale book via the label's website for £30 GBP (approximately $57 AUD).
