Charli XCX is rewriting the rules – again. The boundary-breaking pop star is taking her talents to the big screen with A24’s latest venture, The Moment, a film born from Charli’s own original concept. And she’s not just starring in it; this marks the first project under her newly minted production house, Studio365.
The announcement comes on the heels of Charli’s triumphant five nominations at the Brit Awards, including artist of the year and album of the year. And while The Moment cements her move into filmmaking, it’s just one chapter in her Hollywood conquest. The pop icon has been quietly stacking credits: from Daniel Goldhaber’s Faces of Death remake to Romain Gavras’ adventure comedy Sacrifice, and a starring role in Pete Ohs’ Erupcja. Charli will also share the screen with Nicholas Galitzine, Emma Corin, and Maika Monroe in Julia Jackman’s 100 Nights of Hero and appear in Gregg Araki’s provocative I Want Your Sex.
What is the film about?
Details about the plot are still under wraps, but here’s what we do know so far: The Moment will be directed by Scottish visionary Aidan Zamiri in his feature debut, with a screenplay co-penned by Zamiri and writer Bertie Brandes. Charli’s longtime collaborator, PC Music’s A. G. Cook, is set to compose the score, promising a sonic landscape as transformative as her chart-topping discography.
Behind the scenes, the project brings together a powerhouse team, including David Hinojosa of 2AM as producer, alongside executive producers Brandon Creed, Mikey Schwartz-Wright, and Zach Nutman. A24 – known for its streak of indie-to-mainstream successes – is on board to distribute the film globally, signaling another major step in Charli’s ongoing cultural takeover.
Who is in the cast?
At this point in time, the only casting we know about is XCX herself. Outside of that, confirmation will just have to wait.
When will it be released?
The film is still in early stages of production so likely won't see a release date until at least the end of 2025, or early 2026.
