“David Bowie, Diana Ross, Daft Punk, Deborah Harry, Duran Duran.. and that’s just the D’s…!”, quipped Nile Rodgers to an enthralled, swaying audience at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre.
For these are just some of the legacy artists that he has collaborated with and inspired in his sometimes hard to believe career. We need a little magic in the world at the moment, so dinner and a show a-la CHANEL in celebration of their 2023 Eyewear Campaign (featuring Mr Rodgers alongside Vivienne Rohner and HyunJi Shin) felt surreal this week.
After getting ready with the CHANEL Holiday Makeup 2023 Collection, we started our evening at RUSSH and Sydney favourite 10 William Street – where sunglasses and pasta felt like a natural match. Dining with friends Jessica Gomes, Gabrielle Penfold, Violet Grace, Rukaiya Daud, Olivia Parsons and Serena Wardell among others, there was a slight festive cheer in the air.
We made our way to the Theatre for a pinch yourself meet and greet with the man himself. He has a special connection to Australia, having produced INXS’ Original Sin here in 1984. As he took the stage, a jubilant roar filled the room with an entrancing energy – and the dancing didn’t stop until the last song.
Coming out strong playing hits like Le Freak and I Want Your Love first up, we truly didn’t know what was coming – he ran through some of the Grammy award winning songs he created with artists like Madonna, Beyonce and Sister Sledge during his almost-too extraordinary set. It was hit after hit – and if you thought you could take a rest between songs you know almost every word to, you were wrong! A night to remember – we thank our hero Nile Rodgers for the music that will live forever and his generous offering in this incredible live show, and CHANEL for the iconic pairing.
