There is a certain magic in fashion. The way a garment comes together and the precise craftsmanship that goes into a particular piece.
And this particular kind of wonder and whimsy has never been more evident than in a new mini documentary exploring the FW20 Haute Couture collection from Chanel.
French film director Loïc Prigent goes behind the scenes to showcase the detail, consideration and process involved in each piece featured in the Haute Couture collection. He's created three episodes, each celebrating the elegant craftsmanship, design and "savoir-faire" of Chanel.
The black-and-white series follows the four Haute Couture ateliers at 31 rue Cambon, where the atelier Premières and their teams bring Virginie Viard’s (creative director of Chanel) creations to life.
The collection comes to life on screen, beautifully captured in Prigent's unique way. Each episode shows atmosphere and detail that guidesthe approach of a collection presentation. The effervescence of the Tailleur and the Flou ateliers, where the designs are fashioned. And the unique and captivating moments of the fittings in the heart of the Chanel Creation studio.
Viewers get a front-row seat to the makings of some of the most intricate pieces of fashion created by this house. In front of the director’s camera, the atelier Premières, as well as certain seamstresses talk about their work and even reveal a few tailoring secrets.
Throughout these moments, Prigent’s gaze moves attentively over the embroideries, the laces, the tweeds, the jewelled buttons and the precious braids that go into these truly special pieces. These three films show a never before seen look behind the scenes, shining a new light on Chanel’s Haute Couture, the very essence of the House.
The Fall-Winter 2020/21 Haute Couture collection was unveiled on July 7. You can see a short preview of the full series below. And you can find out more about the documentary series at Chanel Online.
