Hedi Slimane’s vision for CELINE 25, titled Un Été Français, is a dreamy tribute to France’s iconic youth culture, filtered through a nostalgic lens.
Set against the backdrop of Compiègne, France, Slimane draws inspiration from figures like Françoise Sagan and Françoise Hardy, weaving their spirit into a collection that captures both memory and melancholy. This is a summer story told in black silk headbands, sharp fringes, and shimmering sequins, with an eyeliner flick evoking the late Hardy's essence.
The collection reimagines the pleated school skirt, rendered in light summer cashmere and suede, alongside sequinned twinsets paired with pencil skirts. It’s a mix of romance and rebellion, a reflection of Slimane’s documentation of indie culture from Saint-Germain to Kensington in the early 2000s. The suspended silk dresses, embroidered with feathers and crystals, feel both delicate and dramatic, reminiscent of the French summer sun and the languor of youth.
Slimane's signature slouch is apparent in accessories, with CELINE’s layered necklaces over sleeveless tees, and slingbacks made from exotic lacquered leathers. The Teen Bag Joséphine – crafted in croc or lizard – delivers a fresh twist on luxury, extending into a curved handle that can be worn both over the shoulder or handheld.
The collection’s narrative deepens with the launch of Un Été Français, a fragrance from Slimane’s olfactory journal for CELINE, conjuring visions of summers in Saint Tropez and first loves on the Côte d'Azur.
With Slimane at the helm, CELINE 24 doesn’t just dress women – it tells a story of youth, love, and nostalgia, all wrapped in the rebellious French spirit that makes CELINE more than just fashion. It's a memory, a feeling, a scent of summer forever lingering.
