In partnership with Burberry
From the very beginning, when Thomas Burberry invented gabardine – the historic brand's most famed fabric – it was always meant for the outdoors. As time has rolled on, the brand has morphed to meet the needs of the modern market. The city folks, the country folks, the fashion folks alike. But at its core, outerwear has always kept Burberry tethered to its roots, and today, Burberry is going beyond. Transcending boundaries, and moving into open spaces.
Explored through a youthful, dreamlike lens, in the campaign film Burberry open spaces, new Burberry outerwear gives four bold individuals the power to explore and discover. Set amongst the natural beauty of the British countryside, the cast takes us on a journey through the freedom of our imaginations.
We explore outerwear at the forefront, a tactile wardrobe staple that we all know and love. It started with the trench, because of course it did. And as the Burberry outerwear offering expands, we become more enamoured with its timeless edit of carefully constructed jackets, oversized puffers, classic trench coats, and quilted overcoats.
Here, the RUSSH editors round up their favourite pieces from the Burberry outerwear offering, and explore the film, below.

Having had to endure some rough New York winters for the past eight years - my appreciation for a good puffer jacket remains unmeasured. First of all - a good puffer is always light in weight, making it the true hero in outerwear as it often keeps you just as warm without feeling like you’re carrying around a piece of furniture.
Secondly - snow, rain, a hike or a dinner - a puffer will remain forever versatile. And let’s be honest - the Brit’s have always been the best to gear us up for bad luck and bad weather and in my opinion there’s none other that do it quite like Burberry. And with the Burberry check always being one of my favourite prints - the Check Recycled Polyester Cropped Puffer Jacket is one that feels contemporary while still denoting heritage, history and simply a puffer that’s just quite chic.

As a Brit by birth, there is nothing more enduring than a quilted overcoat, perfect for venturing through expansive fields with a pair of wellington boots, crisp air whipping in your face. Tactile enough for the outdoors, elegant enough for a pint at the pub post frolick – these are the memories the silhouette of the Burberry Diamond Quilted Thermoregulated Jacket evoke. A historical silhouette elevated through a modern lens, it is enduring as the brand. In black, it is pared back even more, for versatility's sake. Considering I am no longer dodging wild pony poo on the moors and instead am living city life, the Diamond Quilted Jacket is perfect for brisk spring evenings while lending a 60s silhouette with its single breasted closure, darted waist, and proportionate hemline. I am either giving off seasoned sheep farmer or Jane Birkin incarnate – either are fine by me.

Name a more iconic duo than the classic Trench and Burberry’s check?
I have long been devoted to the Burberry trench as an all-season staple; casual enough to throw over a tracksuit and trainers for weekend errands as well as a smart addition over a suit for days that mean business. It packs lightly (folds neatly into an overhead compartment back in the days when aeroplane travel was a thing) and has come in handy in lieu of an umbrella more than once. My love of the check began in the year 2000 when Testino lensed Kate Moss for the iconic Burberry campaign where she cut her wedding cake in a check slip dress before stripping down to a string bikini of the same cloth. A masterpiece in branding it has had many iterations over the years - ubiquitous on streets as well as high fashion - proving it will forever have a place in my wardrobe.

Those who know me well can attest to the fact that comfort and warmth are my two non-negotiables when it comes to selecting a new coat to add to my string of wardrobe staples. There’s no better feeling than being wrapped like a stylish marshmallow as you carve your way through even Sydney’s gloomiest days while still turning heads in a piece that will ensure all eyes are on you. Burberry’s Detachable Hood Cotton Gabardine Puffer Coat is all this and more. Crafted from the House’s signature lightweight cotton gabardine, this puffer takes its slim-fit silhouette from Burberry’s iconic trench coat – functioning as the perfect transition piece for those days when you need a little extra warmth and some protective headgear.
