Their the newly formed duo breaking the codes of pop music, by mixing new wave to electronic and psych rock. Comprised of singer-songwriter Maxime Sokolinski and Austrian-American singer Adah Jungk. Here we talk to the pair on all things 90s nostalgia, film inception and all that lies ahead - watch their debut single 1992 below.
On their meeting ...
"Adah and I met a few months ago in Paris through a mutual friend, and she told me she was writing music. She came over to mine before going to a rave party. Just before that I found a few chords that I liked and played them to her - she started humming a melody which we both loved and we started writing our first song. It was very spontaneous and felt serendipitous. We knew we shared the same vision and had to do something together!"
On their debut single, 1992 ...
"Ever since we met we had a similar vision of our society that is very paradoxical: on one hand we have so much freedom and innovate constantly and on the other hand, we are so uncertain about what the future hold. 1992 is about looking back at an area in which we grew up in, and that we long we for. It was not necessarily better but there was a certain hope for the future that our current generation is in the process of losing."
On the film clip ...
"The idea was to play with some kind of inception: observing ourselves through Instagram/YouTube playing into an old 90s TV seemed like a fun way to illustrate this song."
On the 90s ...
"First of all, it's the era that is associated with our childhood so we can't help to feel a little nostalgic and idealise it as if these times were more simple and innocent ... When the present feels overwhelming, it's tempting to indulge in nostalgia as a form of escapism."
On what's next ...
"We are currently playing live at the Cannes film festival. We will be releasing another music video for a song called Sexymental that we made with our friend Cheyne Tillier-Daly, an amazing Parisian-based Australian DP and photographer, along with our first EP Tender Storm in September. At last the future seems exciting for us!"
