No longer just limited to the fishing trip or hiking trail, outerwear has now permeated our every day. Emphasising a coalescence of function as well as form, archetypal items like the humble fleece, sturdy boiler suit and pragmatic utility belt have all been adopted and re-contextualised by fashion houses, bent on championing practicality and durability in tandem.
From Balenciaga's collaboration with Spanish artist Santiago Sierra to create its Spring Summer 23 mud runway, to the renaissance of ugly-cool footwear brand Crocs, fortitude and pragmatism in fashion seems certain to weather the ephemeral nature of trends (as well as a number of other terrains).
For our March Resilience issue, model Bradley Veragten sports Kim Jones' Dior Spring Spring 23 menswear collection, an understated and tactile homage to the functionality of outerwear. Shot by Lola Banet and styled by Stefania Gertis, Veragten dons backpacks, beanies, and camouflage windbreakers, complimented by quilted pea coats, broad-brimmed fishing hats and tactical vests, to demonstrate the versatility of the collection against a muted city backdrop.
