Since Bottega Veneta dramatically deleted all traces of itself on social media a couple of weeks back, it's been rather quiet for the brand after the industry weighed in on the symbolism behind its decision to go mostly off-grid. But as suspected, we haven't exactly seen the last of them yet. With a new release of a Chain Cassette Bag and Stretch Sandals, the updated accessories mark the brands latest partnership with online retailer, Mytheresa.
With the collaboration, we see the ever-popular Cassette bag updated in the iteration of a luxe suede exterior, presented in a pale beige hue dubbed “Porridge.” For added bling, the purse is accompanied by the brands signature chunky gold chain straps, to add drama and elevation to the modern staple. As for the Stretch Sandals, the shoes have been updated in a blended pale brown and black python print. The signature shape takes its form with a squared-off toe and mid-height heel.
As we witness the industry adjust to the 55-year-old houses lack of social media presence, it begs the question if it's all in anticipation of something bigger, or simply in an act of brand-preserving defiance? Creative director Daniel Lee is, after all, a protege of Phoebe Philo - one of the most ultra-private designers of the lot (excluding Martin Margiela). Are we seeing the slate wiped clean to prepare for the new guard and potentially a new collection, or is this the grand new social media strategy being managed by the very person who recently filled the open job listing?
Whatever the verdict, we can just be glad for now that Bottega is not gone for good, and as suspected, will continue to reign over the closets of the one per cent for the foreseeable future. As for the new Chain Cassette Bag and Stretch Sandals, they can be found at exclusively at the Mytheresa website.
