Blink's rejoice! In celebration of her 25th birthday, BLACKPINK’s Rosé has released to her YouTube channel a cover of Coldplay’s rhythmically brilliant 2008 track Viva la Vida. Earlier on Instagram, the K-pop starlet eluded to releasing something special for her fans to mark the occasion, with the acoustic cover of the song made public soon after.
In a paired-back rendition of the track – sans string assembly and orchestral backing vocals – the now-25-year-old wore a simple white t-shirt with a grey knitted cardigan while recording in a dimly lit studio. Having posted a link to the cover on her Instagram story with the caption ‘cover 1,’ we believe this may leave the door open for multiple covers to come. The songs and artists to be chosen? We’ll have to wait and see.
Last spring, Rosé released her debut solo album, titled R, so the timely release of the Coldplay cover may be a sample of what’s to come on a second album – at least, we can hope. The album sold more than 440,000 copies in its first week, making Rosé a true K-Pop legend whom we have no choice but to stan as the highest selling album for a Korean female soloist. Alongside the launch of R, she released exclusive merch for fans to shop, ensuring they embody the spirit of the singer and extend their support further than her music alone.
In her 25 years, Rosé certainly has achieved significant milestones along the way to dominating the music scene. An ambassador for the house of Saint Laurent, she has been the muse for the beauty range of the brand and is their first global ambassador in almost 60 years. Alongside this, she is one of the top 10 most-followed Korean individuals on Instagram, currently with a following in excess of 55 million. Who knows what the next year will bring, but it has begun in the most gracious of ways. Happy birthday Rosé!
