What is Black Doves about?
Black Doves has been described by Netflix as a “sharp, action-filled, and heartfelt story of friendship and sacrifice.” It follows Helen Webb (Keira Knightley), a wife, mother and professional spy. In a twist to Helen’s seemingly-perfect marriage, she’s actually been passing on her politician husband’s secrets to the organisation she works for – Black Doves – for the last decade. Things take an even bigger turn when Helen’s lover, Jason (Andrew Koji), is assasinated, and she begins the treacherous investigation to work out who killed him and why.
To top things off, the whole thing takes place in London at Christmas time… so we suppose it still classifies as a holiday watch?
Who is cast in Black Doves?
In addition to Knightley, the series also stars Ben Whishaw as Sam Young, a former assassin who returns to London to assist Helen in avenging her lover’s death. Then there’s Sarah Lancashire as Reed, a spy mistress, and Andrew Buchanan as Wallace Webb, Helen’s husband and the Conservative minister of state for Defense.
Behind the scenes, the series was created, written and executive produced by Joe Barton, and directed by Alex Gabassi (The Crown) and Lisa Gunning (The Power).
When does Black Doves come out?
In keeping with the film's setting, Black Doves is slated for release on December 5, will all episodes uploaded to Netflix at once. In even better news, the series has already been picked up for a second season.
