At its heart, Birkenstock is a company about ease and comfort. Is there anything more aligned with the LA lifestyle? Jerry Lorenzo, founder of Fear of God, has harmonised with the German-born footwear brand to produce a pair of minimalist sandal made for nomadic lifestyles like his own in California.
Arriving in three colourways – Taupe, Ash and Cement – the Los Feliz shoe is a homage to the LA neighbourhood of the same name, which, as Lorenzo told Vogue, "is one of the rare neighborhoods in LA where you don’t really need a car...it is livable on foot".

As with all Birkenstock collaborations, it's a fusion of the the German footwear label's signature silhouettes and the paired back design language synonymous with Fear of God. Inspired by the hillsides enclaves of its namesake, the sandals feature a deep heel cup and an exaggerated single strap closure. Each colourway is available in two premium uppers such as calf suede and wool felt for an extra serving of luxury.
The Taupe shade will also be offered in children's sizing in case you want to match with the little ones in your life. Either way, the Fear of God x Birkenstock collaboration will land in two drops. The first opportunity to snatch a pair up with reveal itself on January 25 at the Fear of God website. A global release is planned for a month later on February 24, where all styles will be available at the Birkenstock 1774 stores.
It's not the first time (nor will it be the last) that Birkenstock has tapped another designer to collaborate. In recent years we've seen the footwear company link up with everyone from Dior to Rick Owens, Jil Sander to Proenza Schouler. I wonder who is next...
