After living in Singapore for over ten years, I only truly grasped the meaning of leaving something wonderful behind when I returned to my hometown, Sydney. Singapore is a gem, and for such a small country there is quite a bit to do - if you've made the decision to make it your next destination, let me give you the local tips on where the best hotels in Singapore are.

Singapore has long been a popular destination for Australians, whether you're on layover on your way to London, living as an expat, or visiting the country as a whole (which only takes under two hours to drive around). A small modern country so rich in diverse culture and history, it's easy to see why Singapore has become popular as a destination.

Whether you're looking for a relaxing beach holiday in Sentosa or an electric trip in the centre of Singapore at Marina Bay Sands – take it from a local, as I round up a list of the best hotels to stay at in Singapore, that suit your wants. Quickly adopted as a Singapore icon, Marina Bay Sands is one of Singapores most exclusive and luxurious hotels at 56 stories high. Located in the city of Singapore, it's as central as it gets with a shopping mall located with the towers, Gardens By the Bay across the road, Art and Science (Lotus) Museum and Merlion Park at walking distance. Rooms are average around $850 a night, however the views and the highest level of service from the team, fitness centre, the infamous infinity pool, and a skylark observation deck. Even if you don't decide to stay here, it's most definitely worth a visit.

 

2. InterContinental

Location: Bugis Junction

Price Point: Middle Range

The five star hotel is a personal favourite. The rooms are fresh and modern, while the hotel itself has accents of Singapores culture throughout its architecture and art, where you can even op for their more traditional 'Heritage Rooms'. Not too far from Marina Bay Sands, the InterConinental offers a lower price point while still extremely central to the city. Only a walk away from Little India, Gardens by the Bay, Fort Canning Park, and Clark Quay. Another perk about this hotel is their service, from personal experience if you ever get unwell or are in need of some assistance, you can 100% count on them to look after you.

 

3. Sofitel

Location: Sentosa

Price Point: Mid-range

If you're looking for more of a fun family orientated holiday, the Sofitel at Sentosa might be the hotel for you. The resort and spa centred hotel is family friendly with complimentary dining for kids, fish foot spa, and a large swimming pool, where the hotel is only 132 steps away from Tanjong Beach. Sentosa itself is on the souther coast of Singapore, a resort Island that has Universal Studios, Sentosa station, Tiger Skytower, the Luge, and the Adventure Cover Waterpark.

 

4. The Fullerton

Location: Central Business District

Price Point: Luxury

On the other side of the quay to Marina Bay Sands is The Fullerton. One of Singapores richest hotel in history, built in 1928 the neoclassical building was once a General Post Office. Walking distance to the Merlion Park, Marina Bay promenade, the Plaza Mall and China Town.

 

5. Tree Tops

Location: Close Proximity to Orchard Road

Price Point: Luxury

Another personal favourite, if you're looking for somewhere a bit more quieter and want to be in touch with nature a bit more, Treetops is for you. More central in Singapore, just off the Main Street Orchard Road, is the perfect eco-luxurious environment for a refreshing resort style experience, kind of home away from home. Perfect for either a single getaway or a location for a family. Being a serviced apartment, they provide daily housekeeping, complimentary breakfast, and complimentary shuttle buses. Walking distance to Orchard Road, you can find shopping centres such as Wheelock, ION, and Takishamaya. A personal favourite if you're on Orchard Road is the Street Ice cream carts (Mint Ice Cream in their sweet bread is a personal favourite), perfect for the heat. Close to delicious restaurants such as Sushi Tei and Australia Cafe on Clark Quay, Boomerang.

Location: Pickering

Price Point: Mid-Range

The PARKROYAL Collection Pickering, Singapore is a luxury hotel eco-friendly garden concept. Located near the Chinatown MRT Station and Singapore's central business district, it's a unique blend of urban convenience and a nature-inspired atmosphere. If you're looking for a secluded island getaway on Sentosa, that is more for the adults, look no further than Capella.
