Belen Hostalet has been dreaming about sunsets. The creative mind and prolific wanderer has been locked down in her home country of Spain, using the time to paint works that will be auctioned to support efforts to fight the coronavirus crisis. Here, she reflects on simpler times, past travels, the joys of a camera roll in times of confinement and her isolation health rituals.
Hello, my name is …
Belen Hostalet.
And I’m …
A content creator and a creative mind.
RUSSH One Cay Palawan Phillipines" width="900" height="600" />
To create, I need …
Natural beauty, which can be found in people, on landscapes, on sunrises, sunsets, the sea, the light, on reflections…
My daily ritual is …
I try to workout every day, either morning or afternoon, depending on the schedule, it clears my mind and makes my body feel great and ready for anything.
I like to work the most in the mornings, I am a morning person and super productive during these ours when it comes to 'office work', and my creative me is more productive in the afternoons, for photographing or painting. Sunsets make me a crazy person, every sunset is just so unique and beautiful, light is different every night …
I try to have a super balanced and healthy lifestyle, eat not that late, in Spain people can have dinner at 10 pm, and love talking with my beloved ones, friends or parents every day, I am a very familiar person, so quality time with them is the best and most amazing time of the day.
And last, but also important, I try to meditate /do yoga / stretching everyday if the agenda allows.
My current project is (please tell us about this) …
As you know, we are living an immense crisis right now, which is affecting my country greatly: Spain. I am painting a beautiful image which will be auctioned and all the profits will go to a beautiful cause here in Spain.
It was inspired by …
HOPE, LOVE, LUCK.
I’m looking at …
All my paintings right now, I have them just right behind my computer
I’m reading …
Normal People by Sally Rooney.
I’m following …
Inès Longevial (LOVE her art) and Monikh Dale (@monikh) for fashion / WFH content)
I’m thinking about …
Hopefully, a summer vacation in Spain with my family and Alejandro’s (my partner).
The travel experience I’m remembering is …
Right now I can’t stop thinking (and playing all kind of videos on my camera roll) about sunsets, how different they are in different parts of the world, and how happy I feel and felt EVERY TIME.
I can’t remember a bitter sunset. But mostly the last ones in Philippines. One Cay took us to their ‘island house’ on the most beautiful private island, and sunsets by the pool … speechless.
The most incredible part was …
The Lagoons in El Nido and Coron, the isolated Black Rock islands or ‘formations’, the clear waters … everything in Philippines was totally different from anything I’ve seen before.
I miss …
Right now my family and friends, since we are staying home. But on a ‘travel’ background, since it’s been a couple months without travelling, I miss the feeling of going somewhere new.
My greatest extravagance is …
I don’t really have any, but lately I found myself buying many activewear sets and painting stuff, but I’ve always been a shoe lover too.
My current state of mind is …
Trying to be better with myself, my loved ones and the planet we live in. I am really trying to become more aware of what we are creating for our planet, be more eco-conscious and sustainable.
I spend my time alone …
Painting, cooking and training.
My mind always travels to …
Hawaii, we lived there years ago, and it feels like home, we have friends there and it’s our favourite place and where we always think about.
