Out of this tempestuous news cycle flies a single scrap of information we can find comfort in. Which is telling of the times as Beetlejuice is not exactly a walk in the park. The Tim Burton classic is reportedly getting a sequel thanks to a combination of Warner Bros. and Brad Pitt's production company, Plan B.
Although currently only in the early stages of production, Beetlejuice 2.0 has been in the pipeline for some time now, with the project gaining traction ever since Brad Pitt jumped onboard. Considering that little else has been announced about the revival of this spooky cult classic we're short on concrete facts be it with casting or a release date. But if by a miracle someone in charge of the Beetlejuice revival happens to read this, let it be known that our only request is that the cast be as iconic as that of the source material.
For those who need reminding, the original Beetlejuice boasted a heavyweight lineup of actors that included grunge sweetheart Winona Ryder, Geena Davis, Michael Keaton, Alec Baldwin, and Catherine O'Hara. Part of the film's charm could be found in its dark humour, deliciously frumpy and gothic costuming, and naturally, the midas touch of Tim Burton. In recent years, it's also been held up as a treasure trove for those looking for Halloween inspiration (see: Bella Hadid and The Weeknd's take on Beetlejuice and Lydia Deetz).
And so, with the promise of a new Beetlejuice on the horizon, the only question we have left is what will the film be about? Will it simply be a remake of the Deetzes vs. the Maitlands and Beetlejuice dynamic? Or will the plot offer a fresh take extending on the original story with (we hope) cameos from Keaton and Ryder? Only time will tell.
