As the chronically online will know, the internet is rife with rumours at the best of times. And while we're usually fairly picky with which of these we subscribe to, talk of a Beatles biopic starring some of our favourite internet boyfriends was too good to ignore.
Now, a new man has entered the fold, with rumours that Joseph Quinn is set to star as George Harrison. According to Deadline, the Gladiator II actor has been spotted with a guitar in tow — perhaps fine-tuning his musical skills for the role.
These new rumours come after Ridley Scott seemingly confirmed that Paul Mescal is, indeed, signed on to the project.
Speaking to fellow filmmaker Christopher Nolan, Ridley was asked if he would cast Paul in his upcoming movie, The Dog Stars.
“Yes. Maybe. Paul is actually stacked up, doing the Beatles next. So I may have to let him go,” he revealed. It's not entirely surprising: after all, the actor did have a guitar in tow when he arrived in Sydney for the Gladiator II premiere just last month.
This very exciting update comes just weeks after The Beatles' own Ringo Starr also seemingly confirmed that Barry Keoghan has also officially been cast.
“I think it’s great. I believe he’s somewhere taking drum lessons, and I hope not too many," Starr told Entertainment Tonight when quizzed about the film.
So if Barry and Paul are on board, could that mean Harris Dickinson will follow suit? Let's investigate.
Who is in the cast?
Ringo Starr and Ridley Scott's comments aside, there's no official word on casting at the moment, but the internet has been swirling with pretty concrete rumours about who will play the leading quad of the film. Paul Mescal, Harris Dickinson, Barry Keoghan and Joseph Quinn are the four film stars slated to play (respectively) Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr and George Harrison. Previously, Charlie Rowe was thought to also be in the running for the role of George Harrison.
We can't argue with some of the uncanny resemblances – and we already know that Paul Mescal can sing – so we'll be waiting for the official notification to drop into our inboxes soon.
What is the film about?
According to Deadline, the project is set to be helmed by Sam Mendes, whose vision is to make four separate, but interconnected theatrical films — one from the point of view of each member of the band. Of course, Mendes, who already has plenty of blockbusters under his belt – from Bond films to cult classics like American Beauty and Cabaret. The films are slated as biopics, so we're thinking we'll get a full run down on each band members' life – from the manic highs to the tragic lows. We've already gotten plenty of documentaries about The Beatles – including Peter Jackson's Get Back only a few years ago – so we're excited to see a more intimate look at the controversies and myths that have shrouded the band for decades. And will the surviving band members give the films their blessing?
When will it be released?
We're still pretty far out from any release dates, as casting has yet to be officially announced. For now, the question is – which band member's film will we get first?
