See Ayo Edebiri in the trailer for ‘Opus’, A24’s eery upcoming release

Ayo Edebiri stans, rejoice. The actress is returning to our screens in a slightly different capacity, thanks to her new film, Opus. Set to premiere at Sundance Film Festival this month, the film — which is billed as a horror — comes courtesy of A24, which is basically a guarantee we're going to love it. Below, everything you need to know about Opus, including the very chilling trailer.

What is Opus about?

As you'll likely have garnered from the trailer, Opus is an eery take on the cult of celebrity. Edebiri plays a young writer who is invited to the remote compound of a reclusive pop star, where she encounters a cult of his die-hard fans and quickly finds herself in the midst of a terrifying unfolding plan.

It's the latest in a string of scucessful ventures for Edebiri, having recently wrapped her third season as Sydney in The Bear. In 2023, she starred opposite Rachel Sennot and Kaia Gerber in the hilarious Bottoms and, more recently, leant her voice acting skills to Inside Out 2.

Who else is involved in Opus?

The role of the popstar is expertly brought to life by John Malkovich. Supporting the duo is Australian actor Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus), Juliette Lewis, Amber Midthunder, and Stephanie Suganami (aka, Steph Shep, aka, Kim Kardashian's former assistant).

Behind the scenes, Opus is the work of writer and director Mark Anthony Green, and marks his feature directorial debut. Previously, he worked as Special Projects Editor of GQ, and had made the short film  Trapeze, U.S.A. If the trailer of Opus is anything to go by, Green is on the cusp of a very illustrious film career.
