Apple's beloved collaboration with Hermès is still very much alive and well.
Apple's annual September Keynote event brings with it all the details on the new iPhones but also all the info on the changes to Apple Watch. This year, there have been changes to the case and screen sizes, plus improvements to battery.
Naturally, many of these changes have carried over to the Apple Watch Hermès collection, which uses the same hardware and software. But there have been some other changes including new bands - including the first ever Apple Watch Hermès metal band. Here's everything new to the range.
New case and screen sizes
The new Apple Watch cases have changes from 41mm and 45mm to 42mm and 46mm. This small change has been made to accomodate a screen that is 30% bigger compared to the Apple Watch 6.
The new Apple Watch Hermès comes in these same sizes and with a silver titanium case which has been designed to match the look of the previous stainless steel case of past models.
Of course, a new case size can present a problem for those who have older bands they wish to use. Fortunately, the bands for the 41mm and 45mm cases are completely compatible with the new slightly larger case sizes.
New bands - including a stainless steel link band
Introducing the new Torsade style. It's a cable-knit band that calls on the historic design codes of Hermès. Inspired by nautical chain, this new design comes in both the single and double tour versions. There are currently three colours in the Torsade range including Grenat and Navy.
A first for the Apple Watch Hermès collaboration - a metal band. Grand H translates traditional watchmaking codes into a form befitting Apple Watch Hermès. The stainless steel band uses the fluid links for a classic take on a modern style. The links are also removable so the band can adjust to different write sizes. Bookended by an 'H', it uses a traditional double butterfly closure.
A new era for the Twill Jump Attelage which has been revived with new textiles. This is a narrow band. A delicate, single tour style with a contrasting edge and silky feel. It harks back to the precise edge painting styles that are so emblematic of the Maison.
For those with a taste for something sportier, Kilim has been crafted with adventurers in mind. The Kilim band is made from soft, waterproof rubber that has been moulded with a geometric 'H' motif. It comes with a quick-release deployment buckle for safety.
If you're looking to upgrade your existing Apple Watch Hermès with one of the new bands, you'll be happy to know that the new bands are indeed compatible with the previous, smaller cases.
Introducing Apple Watch Ultra Hermès
Fan of the Apple Watch Ultra 2? You'll be happy to know that Apple has announced that the Hermès collaboration now extends to the Ultra. This elegant interpretation of Apple's watch for adventurers has nautical design notes and has been crafted with luxurious materials.
The first Apple Watch Ultra Hermès comes with a sporty En Mer band which has been designed to swim and sweat in. It has a titanium buckle and a classic 'H' motif on the band. It also comes with a specific watch face: Hermès Maritime. Notably, it displays the time in a digital format, a first for any watch face in this collaboration. Just one of several unique features, it has a regatta countdown timer.
Adapted watch faces
With a larger screen size, we should see new or at least adapted Apple Watch Hermès watch faces. There haven't been any official updates from Apple on this point, other than the new face for Apple Watch Ultra Hermès.
But as we can see from the imagery, the watch faces are all adapted to the larger screen size. And in particular, the watch face that accompanies the Grand H band appears to have a new minimal look and feel.
The new tech from the Apple Watch 10
The Apple Watch Hermès of course has all the new tech features of the Apple Watch 10. This includes faster charging, more battery life and a case that is thinner and lighter than ever.
You can find a full breakdown of all the tech improvements at our Apple Watch 10 guide.
The Apple Watch Hermes and the Apple Watch Hermes Ultra are available from 20 September.
