In the most unique power-play of 2020, US Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, lovingly known as AOC, just became one of the most successful streamers in Twitch history. How? By encouraging people to vote, of course.
The stream came into fruition on Wednesday afternoon after AOC took to Twitter to issue a call-out for high-profile Twitch users to join her on the platform for a game of Among Us – presenting a unique opportunity to discuss the upcoming US Presidential election with some of the most influential personalities in the streaming world.
Naturally, her offer garnered a huge response, with streaming stars like Imane ‘Pokimane’ Anys, political podcaster Hasan Piker, and YouTuber Harris ‘HBomberguy’ Brewis joining the Democratic Part's rising star.
Anyone want to play Among Us with me on Twitch to get out the vote? (I’ve never played but it looks like a lot of fun)

Fellow Democrat, Congresswoman Ilhan Omar also made an appearance during the hours-long stream, which according to one count, drew nearly 440,000 viewers and has now been viewed over 4.5 million times. Her appearance on Twitch places AOC behind pro-gamer Michael ‘Shroud’ Grzesiek and Drake as the third highest peak on record for the streaming platform. Pretty impressive for her debut video.

While there was a lot of fun to be had, (you can watch the full stream here), AOC also took the opportunity to discuss critical issues being debated in the upcoming election; asking British YouTuber Brewis, “What’s it like to go to the doctor without going bankrupt?”
With coronavirus continuing to disrupt the lives of Americans, the Democratic Party's rising star also urged viewers to develop a safe voting plan ahead of the election, alluding to President Donald Trump's persistent attempt to delegitimise postal voting.
Signing off the three hour stream, AOC's message was simple. “Let’s all participate in this election and save democracy.”
