It seems the whole fashion world is engulfed in escapism at the moment, inspiriting us to daydream rolling in the hills of Provence or summers by the European sea. Heavily inspired by everything French, from Eau d’Été to the groundbreaking attitude of the 60s, earlier this year, Aje transported us to a garden of citrus dreams with Scent of Summer, hosted at the The Calyx for Resort 2022.
The crème de la crème of the finest in opulent whites, beaded sheers and parachute neons raced down the citrus runway, with hemlines skimpy short and tiered skirts that only spoke in the language of volumes. The new official summer two piece was launched with Aje's mini skirt and matching top, an homage to the hedonistic days and styles prevalent of the 60s. The show was a tantalising experience for all the senses, a runway built up of florals, garden beds and a lemon tree centrepiece - the garden fantasy all inclusive with a streaming moat. Aje's Scent of Summer Resort 2022 transported us to somewhere far and distant, a land of carefree nostalgia and summertime ease.
"The French term Eau d’Été, which quite literally translates to ‘summer water’ was regularly on my mind. We cultivated a whole feeling, mood and metaphor around summer, in every element possible – through scent, sense, chroma and sound... The process of unearthing a narrative each season always speaks to us. Embracing a sense of nostalgia, looking to the carefree and hedonistic days of the 60s as a grounding essence to the collection, music by Serge Gainsbourg and films of the era including La Piscine or Bonjour Tristesse provided spurs of inspiration," states Edwina Forest and Adrian Norris of Aje.
The show was empowered, strong and joyful, dressing a new woman who's youthful, wild and adventurous. Not afraid of colour and emanating feelings sentiment of summer, the show followed suit with a stellar line up in casting, including Cameron Stephens, Shimma Marie, Emma Balfour and Billie Jean. Fresh new faces also raised brows and ignited curiosities with the likes of Olivia Parsons, Katya Gray and Varsha Kumar taking the lead on the runway.
Now, Aje is bringing us back to these moments just in time for our return to the scene and to the warmer weather, sharing exclusively with RUSSH the brand's idyllic Scent of Summer campaign film. The film and the collection together offer a dreamscape; a voyage to another time and place, where hearts ran free and souls ran wild. Scent of Summer, lensed by Georges Antoni is a juxtaposition of the sublime and the bohemian, the opulent and carefree – resulting in a celebratory garden soiree.
