Another day, another wedge of news that the cogs in the A24 movie machine are pumping out a fresh film. This time around, it's not a slasher horror like Bodies Bodies Bodies nor is it an adaptation of a popular memoir à la Ocean Vuong's On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous. No, the next film from the production company will be a psychological thriller that it's calling A Different Man. So not completely out of character.
Helmed by Aaron Schimberg, the director has also written the script for A Different Man which is being financed by A24. How's that for a vote of confidence? The filmmakers have also unveiled the cast for the project, which involves none other than Renate Reinsve who won our hearts in the Fleabag-esque black dramedy The Worst Person in the World, a role which she was awarded the title of Best Actress at Cannes 2021. Reinsve appears to be a favourite of A24's at the moment, as she is also working on its film The Governesses alongside HoYeon Jung and Lily-Rose Depp.
Joining Reinsve in the film's other leading role is Sebastian Stan. Despite his involvement in the Hulu series Pam & Tommy, one that went forward without Pamela Anderson's blessing even though it centred the deliberately leaked sex tape between her and ex-husband Tommy Lee, he's been enjoying a recent bout of popularity. In A Different Man, Stan will play Edward, a social pariah and recluse who undergoes facial reconstruction surgery in pursuit of a fresh start. When a stage production based on Edward's former life takes shape, he becomes obsessed with the man playing his former self.
At this point, this short synopsis is all we have to go off. But watch this space as we update you with more details like a production start date, premiere date, etc. You know the drill!
