Think of it as your last chance for the best night out you’ve had this year. From the Wet Dreams Wine and Food festival to Moonlight Cinema’s finest flicks, there’s a lot to experience as summer finally sets in.
Nick Cave: Until
Carriageworks, November 23 – March 3
American artist Nick Cave, known for his brash and textural ‘soundsuits’, extends his penchant for immersive sculptural experience with an installation that will send you on an awe-inspired orbit around the classic Carriageworks site. Comprised of thousands of found objects, Until, a reference to the phrase ‘innocent until proven guilty’, creates a much-needed public forum for addressing issues of misplaced justice and undue violence through artist talks and live performances held after hours.
Moonlight Cinema Sydney
Centennial Park, November 29 – March 31
The days are getting longer and the nights are getting warmer, which means cinephiles can once again enjoy a feature film in the open air thanks to the Moonlight Cinema. You know the drill by now, grab a rug and pack all the picnic essentials then lean back to watch something new or one of your favourites like Dirty Dancing. Somebody put Baby on the big screen and we are forever grateful.
Limited: Launch
Kellett St Potts Point, December 1
Leave all inhibitions at the door at the opening of Potts Point’s new exclusive club, Limited. Decked out with the phrase ‘she looks best in red’ in mind, a selection of premium champagne and signature cocktails will be waiting to be sipped against burgundy velvet backdrops and risqué artworks, putting a sense of decadence back into Sydney nightlife. Admission will be limited so get in quick.
Wet Dreams Wine and Food Festival
The Dolphin Hotel, December 2
Good things come to those who wait, and we’ve been on the edge of our seats in anticipation for the second instalment of Wet Dreams Wine and Food Festival. In a complete take over of The Dolphin, our favourite spot for a post-work, pre-weekend glass, over 30 producers will be showing off their finest creations, served alongside some delicious food pairings and of course, the company of all your friends. This is one not to be missed.
BFA Exhibition Opening Night
The National Art School Gallery, December 6
Head over to Darlinghurst’s most impressive historical site and rub shoulders with Sydney’s next generation of contemporary artists, making their first marks on the future in a culmination of their time at the legendary National Art School. Photography, print work and ceramics will be on display, as well as open studios in case you wanted a glimpse of the artist’s practice, before they join notable alumni such as James Gleeson and Anna-Wili Highfield on even bigger, whiter walls.
