The House of Celine launched makeup last year with a single perfect lipstick, Le Rouge Celine in Rouge Triomphe. The vision for Celine Beauté was imagined by former Creative Director Hedi Slimane, an extension of the sexy, cool, smart woman he designed for. Slimane has since left the house (his next move yet to be announced) but the French beauty metier is growing, with 14 new shades being introduced to the fold.
Rough Triomphe was a quintessential red: bold, neutral in tone and saturated in terms of pigment. The new hues cover everything from peachy nude all the way through to a purpleish black aptly called 'Nightclubbing', the same name given to Slimane's fine fragrance that was an homage to his formative years at the Parisian nightclub, Les Bain Douches. Le Peau Nue was also famously worn by models in Slimane's Triomphe film last year.
Like the original red, each formula is composed of predominantly naturally-derived ingredients, with a satin finish and refillable gold bullet. They're also scented, a delicate mix of rose and rice. The creaminess of the lipstick is said to have been inspired by Slimane's obsession with couture fabrics. Texture, and the way it feels on the skin, is paramount.
The complete shade range is available online and in selected Celine boutiques, alongside a series of accompanying objects (cases, leather trimmed mirrors and a lipstick case that hangs from a gold chain, like a piece of jewellery). New Creative Director Michael Rider is due to start work early this year, expanding Celine Beauty to include eyeliner, mascara, powders, blush and nail polish in the coming years.
