Rise and shine with 8 of Sydney’s best breakfasts

breakfast in sydney

If you're anything like the RUSSH team, you subscribe to the idea that breakfast has the power to make — or break — your day. Luckily for those of us in Sydney, our city knows a thing or two about mastering the art of the first meal of the day. Whether your taste leans sweet or savoury, there are plenty of cafés dotted across Sydney serving up classics like fresh avocado on crusty sourdough, and fluffy pancakes drenched in syrup and seasonal fruit. And, if you've exhausted the city's offering of Australian-style fare,  there's also plenty of haunts serving up delicacies from other cultures, from Swedish to Japanese.

Below, whet your appetite with our guide to the best breakfast spots in Sydney. Thank us later.

Sydney-siders would consider it a crime to leave Bill's off this list. The late chef put Australian breakfast food on a global stage, and will forever be remembered for his classic, instantly-identifiable dishes, including fluffy ricotta hotcakes, divine corn fritters, and the creamiest scrambled eggs we've ever tasted.

Superfreak

A newer addition to Sydney's breakfast scene, this Marrickville eatery has quickly earned a cult following. The menu is simple, but delicious, spotlighting quirky takes on pared-back dishes, like the Morning Roll, which features jammy eggs, comte, Mayo, coriander and shallot, and the oat, rye and buckwheat porridge, which comes slathered in cultured butter, brown sugar and poached rhubarb.

Kaska

Kaska is somewhat of a Darlinghurst institution. While its known for an impeccable cup of coffee, you'll need some serious willpower to stop there. The breakfast menu ranges from fresh-baked pastries, to addictive brown butter and sesame scrambled eggs. Find a spot in the sun, devour, and enjoy.

Fika

While Australians are no doubt patriotic about their breakfast, we can admit that the Swedes know a thing or two about a satisfying morning meal. Take Fika, for example. The Manly cafe and bakery specialises in Swedish fare, from cinnamon buns (get there early for one fresh from the oven for a life-changing experience), to Skagen toast, featuring prawn, dill & lemon mayo mix with iceberg on sourdough.

Piña

Chances are, Piña has made its way onto your Instagram feed at one point or another. It should come as no surprise: not only is the food undeniably photogenic, but it tastes as good as it looks, too. You can play it safe with scrambled eggs or avocado toast, or think a little outside the box with a curry omelette or savoury sourdough pancake. Your only problem will be choosing just one dish.

Noon

Despite what the name might suggest, Noon is ideal for satisfying your breakfast cravings. You won't find anything overly inventive on the menu, but what they do serve is done to perfection. We're forever dreaming about the sourdough fruit toast served with goats cheese and honey, and the hash brown dusted with truffle and parmesan.

Cafe Monaka

Japan might be the hottest travel destination in 2025, but you don't have to board a plane to experience the country's cuisine. Cafe Monaka is one of the only spots in Sydney serving up authentic Japanese fare, and it's worth scheduling a visit. Located in Mona Vale, the bustling joint specialises in “Asagohan”, a Japanese style-breakfast that includes steamed rice, miso soup, grilled salmon marinated in shio-koji (fermented rice), edamame tamagoyaki (egg omelette), kobachi (seasoned vegetables), and tsukemono (pickles).

The Shop

Speak to any Bondi local and they'll likely rave to you about The Shop. If you ask us, few things hit the spot after a morning spent on the beach like a bacon and egg roll and an iced matcha. You'll just have to snag a table at the bustling Bondi location and see for yourself.
