These are the films that dominated Letterboxd’s Year In Review

Letterboxd Year In Review

There's no doubt that 2024 was a jam-packed year of cinema, and nothing proves it more than Letterboxd's long-awaited Year In Review. In addition to Letterboxd Wrapped, the Year In Review functions as a collective retrospective, analysing all Letterboxd users watching habits to determine which films we loved the most. The results are then neatly tied up into a sleek infographic, with 16 awards up for grabs, including Highest Rated Films, Most Popular Month, Most Popular Films, and Popular/Favourite Reviews.

So, how did your favourite film fare? Below, we're rounding up the films and actors that dominated in Letterboxd's 2024 Year In Review.

Highest Rated Film: Dune Part Two

Taking out the m0st coveted award for Highest Rated Film — based on almost half a billion ratings cast in 2024 — was to Dune Part Two. It should come as no surprise, the dystopian blockbuster assembled a seriously stellar cast, including Timothée Chalamet, Florence, Pugh, Zendaya, and Austin Butler.

The film also took out the Highest Rated Action / Adventure category, Highest Rated Sci-Fi, and Highest Rated North American Film, and was voted the Most Popular film overall.

Second Highest Rated Film: I'm Still Here

In second place for Highest Rated Film was I'm Still Here, directed by Walter Salles. The political drama takes place in Brazil in 1971, and follows a mother whose family's life is shattered during the tightening grip of a military dictatorship.

The film also received a nod for Highest Rated Drama, and Highest Rated South American Film.

Third Highest Rated Film: How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies

This heartwarming Thai film delves into complex family dynamics, charting a young man who quits his job to care for his dying grandmother, motivated by the possibility of inheriting her fortune.

It was third place for Highest Rated Film, and won the Highest Rated Directorial Debut category.

Most watched actress: Zendaya

With roles in Dune and Challengers (which won for Highest Rated Sports film), it should come as no surprise that Zendaya took the crown in 2024. She was followed closely by The Substance's Margaret Qualley, then Emma Stone, and Florence Pugh.

Most watched actor: Willem Defoe

Willem Defoe had several accolades this year, from Nosferatu, which took out the Highest Rated Horror, to Poor Things (way back in January). In second place was Timothée Chalamet, and in third place, his Dune co-star, Stellan Skarsgård.
