After plenty of speculation (from the RUSSH team in particular), Austin Butler has been confirmed to play Patrick Bateman in American Psycho.

Variety confirmed this morning that the actor will star in Luca Guadagnino‘s interpretation of Bret Easton Ellis' book. It's a fresh take on the now-iconic story, and will see Butler step into the infamous role of Patrick Bateman, the chilling and charismatic anti-hero made famous by Christian Bale in the 2000 adaptation.

Naturally, there's been plenty of buzz around who would score the role in question in recent months, with Jacob Elordi previously thought to be the frontrunner, after he was spotted on a lunch date with none other than Guadagnino. But all that's now in the past, with the role officially going to a different Elvis actor. Below, everything we know about Butler's role in what will surely be a boundary-pushing project.

Who else is cast in American Psycho?

For now, Butler is the only actor confirmed for the project, rounding up a busy few years of filming, from Elvis to Dune. He's also set to star alongside Tom Holland in the upcoming '80s biopic, American Speed. The role will be relatively new territory for Butler, and we're definitely excited to see his take on Bateman's signature slick suits, impeccable skincare routine and, of course, murderous tendencies.

The original cast was stacked with now-A listers, including Willem Dafoe, Jared Leto, Chloë Sevigny, Justin Theroux, and Reese Witherspoon. We'll be watching closely to see who scoops up these roles.
