Meet Julian Klausner, the new Creative Director of Dries Van Noten

There's a fresh face at the helm of Dries Van Noten for the first time ever, and it's none other than 33-year-old Julian Klausner. The coveted creative director role at the brand has been open since June, when Dries himself stepped down from the top spot. So who is the new man in charge? Everything we know about Klausner, below.

Who is Julian Klausner?

There's been a creative director musical chairs of sorts in the fashion world this year, so it's interesting to know that Klausner was actually promoted internally at Dries Van Noten. He joined the brand in late 2018, working alongside Van Noten to design and develop the brand's womenswear collections. Prior to working at Dries Van Noten, Klausner studied at esteemed arts school La Cambre in Brussels. During this time, he scored internships at the likes of Thom Browne and Kenzo, before working as a junior designer at Maison Margiela after graduating.

It's this experience, Van Noten said, that will hold Klausner in good stead to keep the brand's distinct identity in tact. “I have complete confidence in Julian’s creativity and vision,” Van Noten said in a statement. “His deep understanding of the brand and its values will ensure a seamless transition and bright future.”

With this promotion, Klausner will be tasked with overseeing both menswear and womenswear. His first menswear collection will be unveiled in just a few weeks via a look book and, in two months, he’ll make his runway debut with a womenswear collection shown during Paris Fashion Week.

“I am beyond thrilled to oversee the upcoming seasons as we begin the next chapter for this house,” Klausner said of his new role. “The incomparable legacy that Dries is leaving behind is monumental, serving as an endless source of precious inspiration. I look forward to embarking on new ambitious challenges while honouring the heritage we all cherish.”
