As we prep for the new year, it’s out with the old and in with the new – and that includes colour. Pantone has unveiled their highly-anticipated hue of the year for 2025 as none other than Mocha Mousse. Also known as PANTONE 17-1230, the shade is a gentle brown, described by Pantone as  “an evocative soft brown that transports our senses into the pleasure and deliciousness it inspires,” and appeals “to our desire for comfort.”

Each year, the colour selected by Pantone is meant to set the tone in the cultural zeitgeist. Last year’s shade, Peach Fuzz, for example, was meant to inspire kindness and radiate warmth. This year, then, much like the comfort foods it derives from, Mocha Mousse is all about self-compassion and filling up our cups.

Sartorially speaking, we’ve already seen the shade rise through the ranks, as accessories and outerwear in shades of brown reign supreme on the runways. There’s also been a ‘90s-esque shift towards chocolate brown in beauty, from chocolate cherry hair, to actual products, like Rhode’s Toasted Teddy blush and Espresso Peptide Lip Tint.
