While Friends became a cultural phenomenon for its witty writing and charming characters, to us, the show’s most enduring legacy is undoubtedly the wardrobe of Rachel Green.
Though the series first aired thirty years ago, Rachel’s influence on fashion hasn’t waned a bit. The original 90s it-girl, her iconic preppy looks, from mini skirts and turtlenecks, to the perfect blue-jeans-and-tee combo, are just as covetable now as they were when she first wore them.
She was also an original proponent of the chic working girl wardrobe – a foundation of today’s ‘office siren’ trend, if you will – thanks to her impressive career climb across the series’ ten seasons. From waitressing at Central Perk, to getting her foot in the door of the fashion industry at Bloomingdale’s and, eventually, making a name for herself at Ralph Lauren, Rachel delivered ample corporate outfit inspiration, episode after episode.
When she wasn't at work, she was making a strong case for an everyday wardrobe comprised of slip dresses, baby tees, and sweaters. And when the group ventured out after dark, she knew how to make a statement, whether it was in that mint green dress (watch 'The One Where No One's Ready' if you need a reminder), or opting for a strapless LBD to Monica's Halloween party over a traditional costume (we really can't blame her).
So, in honour of Rachel's sartorial legacy, we're looking back through the archives at the outfits that cemented her as an enduring fashion icon, now and forever.
