If you subscribe to the laws of astrology, you’re likely well acquainted with the stereotypes associated with your sign. For the Sagittarians amongst us, the stars indicate that you’re the loudest, liveliest, and perhaps most spontaneous of the zodiac group. But did you know that you can hone in on your sun sign a little closer, and find out more about your personality based on when, exactly, you’re born in Sagittarius season? Allow us to explain.
Breaking down the Sagittarius decans
The zodiac wheel comprises 360 degrees, and each of the 12 zodiac signs takes up 30 degrees on this wheel. Zooming in a little closer, each of the zodiac signs can be split into three segments – called decans – of 10 degrees each. Each degree is equivalent to a day – so, the first 10 days or degrees of a sign make up the first decan, and so on.
According to this logic, your personality could differ significantly depending on which decan you fall into. In other words, there are bound to be differences between a Sagittarius born in November, versus a Sagittarius born in December, despite both falling under the same sun sign. Let’s investigate.
What are the traits of a November Sagittarius?
Most astrologists agree that those born in November (the sign's first decan) more closely align with the typical Sagittarius traits. This is because Sagittarians born in the first decan are ruled exclusively by Jupiter — the most convivial of the plants — so they embody the sign's jovial boisterousness. Like the stereotype goes, November Sagittarians live life without a filter, are spontaneous, and seem to always land on their feet. Unlike their December counterparts, November Sagittarians lean philosophical: they love talking out different belief systems, and are eager to learn new ways of thinking.
What are the traits of a December Sagittarius?
Sagittarians born in December, on the other hand, are co-ruled by Mars, which is a planet closely associated with taking action. Specifically, those born between December 3 and December 12 fall into the second decan of the sign. As a result, these December Sagittarians can be a little more impulsive than their November counterparts, often making big decisions without giving too much thought to the consequences. While they not doubt have this sign's cheerful disposition in spades, December Sagiattarians can also tend to be competitive, and are typically keen to channel their energy into being the best versions of themselves.
Fast forward to the days between December 13 and December 21, and we arrive at the third Sagittarius decan. Ruled by the Sun, these Sagittarians are adept at doing things their own way, and have a strong sense of what's right and wrong. By the same token, they're bold and enigmatic and, as a result, make natural leaders, who have no trouble drawing people into their ideas. Much like their ruling planet would suggest, Sagittarians born in the third decan aren't shy of the spotlight.
