After a year of patiently waiting, Prada Beauty has launched in Australia.

While it's not the first luxuriate to do beauty in the last 18 months (cc. Celine, Valentino), Prada's launch has been a special one. The makeup collection, including matte lipsticks, eyeshadow palettes and foundation, draws on the archives. The shadows riff on original Prada textiles (all 27,000 of them), while the soft matte of the lipstick bullet is inspired by the original blurred lips seen at the very first ready-to-wear show in 1988. Prada is a house well-known for colour — unlikely combinations in muted hues like rust, mint, baby pink and bronze, plus digital shades of bright blue, lavender and bottle green. The matte lipsticks, including Hypermatte and Soft Matte, are inspired by saffino leather and re-nylon respectively. The shade 'Tonka' is also the viral favourite of Sabrina Carpenter — you can watch her apply it in the video clip for Taste.

I personally love the Prada Reveal Foundation, a semi-matte fluid that glides onto the skin like cashmere. Interestingly, the shade range was designed by AI, scanning 3000 differing skin tones to come up with 35 optimised shades. It's sheer but buildable, and surprisingly lightweight for a classic foundation.

There is also skincare, Prada Augmented, a skin system fortified with adaptogens to ensure the skin is able to cope and regenerate in its environment (very futuristic). It's very curated: there's a cleanser, essence, serum and face cream, as well as refills. And on that note, Prada prides itself on sustainability. Every single element is refillable, and most of the formulas are predominantly bio-based. What this means is less waste, lighter transport and reduced raw material usage overall.
