With new shows cropping up all the time, it can be hard to know which ones you should be tuning into. Well, we’re here to tell you that Territory is worth dedicating your next couch-rotting session to.
Set in the Australian Outback, the new Netflix hit has money, family drama, and a fierce inheritance war in spades – kind of like if Succession took place in the Northern Territory. Specifically, it charts the goings on at the world’s largest cattle station, when the business is left without an heir. Bringing the battle to life is an all-star Australian cast, including Anna Torv (Fringe), Sam Corlett (Vikings: Valhalla), Michael Dorman (For All Man Kind), and newcomer Kylah Day.
But if (like us) you’ve already binged all six episodes and are wondering how to fill the Territory-shaped hole in your heart, we’ve got you covered. Below, we’re rounding up five shows like Territory worth watching next.
Succession
Naturally, we can't talk family drama and succession wars without mentioning the OG drama. The hilariously dark four-season series won over the world thanks to the story of the Roy children and their internal power struggle to inherit their father's company, Waystar RoyCo. In addition to impeccable script-writing, much of the show's success is owing to Succession's all-star cast, lead by Brian Cox, Sarah Snook, Nicholas Braun, Matthew MacFadyen, Kieran Culkin, and Jeremy Strong. What we would give to go back and watch this show for the first time again...
All four seasons of Succession are now streaming via Binge.
Yellowstone
If the outback is your thing, look no further. Yellowstone follows the Dutton family, who own the largest ranch in Montana, and is packed with family (and a little bit of external) drama. It's also the work of a stacked cast, including Kevin Costner, Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser, and Luke Grimes.
Yellowstone is now streaming through AppleTV+.
The Son
Another Western drama, The Son is based on the 2013 novel by the same name, and follows Eli McCullough who, after being kidnapped as a child, grows up to become a cattle baron-turned-oilman. Starring Pierce Brosnan as Eli, the series flashes through two separate time peridos: childhood, when he is raised by Comanches as an adopted son, and the present-day, as he struggles to maintain his oil empire to pass onto his children.
The Son is now streaming on Netflix.
Ozark
For a little more family drama, but a little less outback, Ozark follows Marty Byrde (Jason Bateman), a financial advisor embroiled in a money laundering scheme. But when the plan goes wrong, Marty is forced relocate his family to Missouri, where he must work to make amends to a Mexican drug cartel. A gripping watch, to say the least.
Ozark is now streaming on Netflix.
The Crown
The British royal family might seem worlds away from a Northern Territory cattle station, but we'd argue that the two have more in common than you think. Charting the actual happenings of the British royals from 1947 until 2005, The Crown deals heavily in matters of succession and family politics.
The Crown is now streaming on Netflix.
