If, like the RUSSH team, you were shocked to hear – and see – the news that model, chef-extraordinaire and the blueprint of the Brat revolution, Gabbriette Bechtel, had landed in Sydney, then we sure have news for you. With no real indication of why the star, and fiance to 1975 lead signer Matty Healy had touched down, Down Under, all we've had to keep us together was a mountain of speculation and the comfort of watching Gabbriette on her own mini food tour of Sydney. But finally, after what has felt like an age, all has been revealed.
Gabbriette herself has confirmed that she is in Australia to film a reboot of the hit 90s classic, I Know What You Did Last Summer. We know what you're thinking, this isn't the first time the cult film has been revisited, but unlike the slightly disappointing 2021 reboot by Amazon Prime, we actually have hope that it will be as good as the original.
Who else is cast in I Know What You Did Last Summer?
Truthfully, there's not many public details about the upcoming project. We do know, however, that Monsters star Nicholas Alexander Chaves has officially joined the cast, alongisde Lola Tung (The Summer I Turned Pretty), and Austin Nichols. They'll also be working alongside Outerbanks lead Madelyn Cline and Bodies Bodies Bodies star Chase Sui Wonders — two more Hollywood stars who are currently in Sydney for the project. There's also rumours that the original film’s star Jennifer Love Hewitt is in talks to round out this powerhouse cast. Could we soon be sighting Chaves, Love Hewitt, and Tung on Bondi Beach? We certainly hope so.
Off camera, the reboot is being spearheaded by American director and film producer Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who co-wrote Marvel Studios's Thor: Love and Thunder alongside Taika Waititi. Gabbriette revealed in an interview with Elle USA that she had travelled to Australia for filming, and some rumours have suggested that the star will remain in Australia for the next couple of months. But as for the rest, we'll have to wait and see.
Stay tuned for more updates to come.
