Sydney Sweeney has yet another project in the works, and it involves one of her Euphoria co-stars. Amidst the long-awaited return of the series’ third season, Sweeney has teamed up with Coleman Domingo on a 1950s drama, Scandalous. The film marks Domingo’s directorial debut, and will reportedly also star David Jonsson, a British writer and actor best known for his role in Industry. While it might not exactly fall within the same wheelhouse as Euphoria, it might be the closest we get to a cast reunion while we (impatiently) wait for the third season to air. Curious? Everything we know about Scandalous below.
What is Scandalous about?
Unlike Euphoria, the film is based on real-life events. Scandalous charts the affair between film star Kim Novak, and musician and Rat Pack member Sammy Davis Jr. Their romance began when in 1956, when the pair met as guests on The Steve Allen Show. But, at the height of America’s racial caste system, an interracial relationship of this kind was subject to much scrutiny. According to reports, Harry Cohn, the head of Columbia Pictures, even threatened Davis to end the relationship or “he would lose his one good eye.”
In 1958, a gossip columnist ran a story that alleged the couple were planning to tie the knot. Both Davis and Novak declined the reports, and just nine days later, Davis married a Black woman named Loray White. Then, in 1965, Novak married a white actor, Richard Johnson. According to reports, Scandalous looks set to chart exactly what happened.
Who is involved in Scandalous?
So far, the only two actors confirmed to be cast in the film are Sweeney and Jonsson. Behind the scenes, Sweeney will also take on a producer role, as will Tani Cohen and Bobby Roth.
When will Scandalous be released?
There’s a few other projects to hit screens before Scandalous premieres. Sweeney is currently shooting a biopic on female boxer Chrissy Martin, and she and Domingo are both slated to begin work on Euphoria season three in January, 2025. We’d guess that this will need to wrap up before filming for Scandalous gets underway.
