Louis Vuitton takes over the iconic Cour Carrée du Louvre for SS25

Last night, Louis Vuitton showed their Spring Summer 2025 womenswear collection, set against the iconic Cour Carrée du Louvre. For Creative Director Nicolas Ghesquière, it was a celebration of contrast, where softness met power, history embraced modernity, and fashion and art intertwined.

The location ...

The Louis Vuitton SS25 collection unfolded in the historic Cour Carrée du Louvre in Paris. The setting was made even more striking by a juxtaposing mirrored structure, which reflected the majestic architecture surrounding it, creating an interplay between history and modernity that perfectly mirrored the collection’s themes. This dynamic backdrop set the tone for Ghesquière’s exploration of sartorial soft power, where opposites attract and coexist harmoniously.

The set ...

The runway, constructed entirely from stacked Louis Vuitton trunks, paid homage to the House’s heritage while laying the foundation for a collection that thrived on contrasts.

The collection ...

Ghesquière’s designs balanced “ethereal opulence” with “razor-sharp delicacy,” where diaphanous fabrics met tailored silhouettes in a striking dialogue of fluidity and structure. The interplay of softness and strength was evident in every piece, embodying the idea of “intractable lightness” and “resolute femininity.”

Adding an artistic dimension to the collection, works from Laurent Grasso’s Studies into the Past series were reimagined on select garments. These pieces became wearable art, merging historical reflection with contemporary fashion. The intricate detailing of the art brought depth and texture to the collection, reinforcing the harmonious blend of contradictions that defined the show.

The soundtrack ...

Sonically, the Louis Vuitton SS25 runway was enveloped by four tracks from Jamie xx’s album In Waves, which enhanced the sensory experience, echoing the contrasts of the collection through its shifting rhythms and beats. The combination of atmospheric music and the visually captivating mirrored set made the event a multi-dimensional exploration of opposites.

The show notes ...

"French fashion is a formidable soft power, radiating a tradition of savoir-faire, an art de vivre – a cultural singularity. Taken literally, soft power is also a fascinating oxymoron. How to reconcile two antagonists, softness and power?

The Louis Vuitton Women's Spring-Summer 2025 collection thrives on contrast, seemingly generating constant movement. Sartorial soft power can also be a striking back-and-forth between two contradictory yet harmonious opposites. The suppleness of structure. Intractable lightness. Mastering vibrations. Spidery depths. Ethereal opulence. Razor-sharp delicacy. Resolute femininity. The mechanics of fluidity...

This season, pictorial works by the artist Laurent Grasso appear on selected pieces that reprise five paintings from the series entitled Studies into the Past. The musical set is comprised of a mix of four titles taken from the new album by Jamie xx, In Waves."
