Duped by Crumbl Cookies? Here’s where to *actually* get the best cookies in Sydney

Where to get the best cookies in Sydney.

From Stanley Cups to Lululemon jackets, the internet – and TikTok in particular – is a powerful trend incubator. And as Australian users of the app will sadly know, getting your hands on the internet's latest obsession is often inhibited by our geographical location, leaving us forced to experience various viral phenomena through our phone screens.

It makes sense, then, that when the viral US bakery Crumbl Cookie purported to be bringing a one-day only pop up to Sydney, Australians jumped at the chance to taste the biscuits IRL. In case you somehow missed the mania, Crumbl is a much-loved American cookie purveyor with a following on TikTok of nearly 10 million. Each week, TikTok foodies take to the app to share their review of the bakery's latest menu, and rack up millions of views themselves in the process.

As you’ve likely now worked out via your FYP, all was not as it seems in the case of Crumbl Cookie Australia. In fact, the Sydney pop-up has now been revealed to not be affiliated with the actual Crumbl Cookie at all, and the cookies were allegedly either imported to Australia and resold, or baked by an Aussie home cook in their kitchen. Of course, all this didn't come out until hundreds of fans had lined up for hours and forked out $17.50 per cookie to satisfy their cravings – but we'll leave it to the internet sleuths to determine what actually went down.

Whether you fell for the hype, or all this talk of baked goods has simply got your mouth watering, we’ve got you covered. Below, where to actually find the best cookies in Sydney, according to the RUSSH team.

This Manly-based bakery has earned internet fame in its own right. Their deliciously stacked cookies are baked fresh every day, and include classic flavours like double chocolate chip snickerdoodle, as well as one-off masterpieces from honey roasted pistachio to caramel apple crumble. But wait, it gets better. If a cookie wasn't enough, you can upgrade your order with a swirl of soft serve ice cream. Chef's kiss.

2. Kuki

Over in Darling Square, relative newcomer Kuki is fast becoming known as a bakery to watch. They've mastered classics like brown butter chocolate chip cookies, but also have some interesting creations on their menu, including taro mochi, and earl grey and white chocolate. We suppose we'll just have to try them all!

Humble is considered somewhat of a Surry Hills institution -- and for good reason. In addition to delectable cakes and sandwhiches, the bakery also whips up cookies of the finest calibre. While their menu changes regularly, it's been known to include classics like chocolate chip and Anzac biscuits, and shortbread that's almost too pretty to eat.

For those not in Sydney, Sweet Splits is our go-to for cookie goodness delivered Australia-wide. Mark your next special occasion with one of their giant cookie cakes (you can even add balloons and candles to your order) or simply treat yourself with a mixed box of six, nine, or 12 cookies.

Their classic choc chip and gingernut varieties are the perfect addition to your next afternoon tea, or for the indecisive amongst us, why not try Nadine's assorted creams? Packaged in a tin (complete with wax paper and yarn) this nostalgic selection features old school delicacies like wagon wheels, sour cherry and almond jaws, and orange creams.
