5 chic spots to watch the AFL grand final in Sydney

Where to watch the AFL Grand Final in Sydney

Not a sports enthusiast, but suddenly found yourself interested in the AFL? Us too. Maybe it's the Sydney Swan’s recent winning streak that's caught your eye, or perhaps you’ve been busy admiring the – ahem – action on the field this season. Whatever the reason, there’s an undeniable excitement in the air as we near this weekend’s grand final match. And while we wouldn't go as far as deem ourselves die-hard sports fans, we have to admit, it’s an atmosphere we want in on.

Want to catch the action, but not keen on bunkering down at your local sports bar? Below, we’ve rounded up the chicest spots across Sydney to watch the Sydney Swans take on the Brisbane Lions in the AFL grand final.

The Dolphin, Surry Hills

If you want to make a day of it, why not book in for a long lunch at The Dolphin? The Surry Hills institution will open its doors from 11:30am. After that, they’ll be screening the match across the whole sprawling venue – so if you’ve left securing a booking until the last minute, you might just be in luck.

North Bondi RSL, North Bondi

Still not sold on watching the game? The North Bondi RSL makes a pretty convincing case. As well as being home to one of the most stunning beachfront views in Sydney, the laid-back venue will be broadcasting all the action on multiple screens and offering cheap eats and drinks to go with it.

Public House, Petersham

Prefer sipping a natural wine to beer? Public House is for you. Kick back in the sunny courtyard with their extensive wine, cocktail and woodfire pizza and enjoy the game in comfort. We call that a win-win.

The Newport, Newport

The Newport has long been considered one of the most stunning venues in Sydney, and for good reason. Nestled over Pittwater harbour, this is easily one of the chicest locations to catch the AFL. Even better, it's a dog-friendly venue, so you can cuddle your pooch while you watch the game. Did someone say dream venue?

The London Hotel, Paddington

If you've left it too late to score a booking, The London Hotel might have you covered. The Paddington venue allocates a selection of tables for walk-ins on game day, and is conveniently located just off the hustle and bustle of Oxford street.

Taphouse, Darlinghurst

If you're motivated by delicious food and drinks than the game itself, Taphouse offers the best of both worlds. The Darlinghurst pub serves up delectable Chinese fare (think: wok fried mud crab and Mongolian lamb) and will be streaming all the AFL grand final action on Saturday afternoon. What more could you want?
