The shoes that have the ‘RUSSH’ editors excited for spring

It's hard to describe the euphoric feeling when you smell the first hint of Australian springtime on the wind. It promises long days, late dinners and body-skimming sundresses.

Of course, with the excitement of the warmer weather, comes the drop of new fashion essentials into stores. This spring, there have been more than the usual share of footwear creations that have us threatening to forget all sense of moderation. Strappy sandals, trans-season boots, flip flops and - of course - Tabis. Here are the shoes that have us excited for the warm weather ahead.

I’m pretty minimal when it comes to footwear and I like my shoes to be versatile and comfortable more than anything. For spring, I’m looking for a sneaker that’s slimmer, but still with a retro feel, like the . The HEREU Black Alba T-bar Loafers have long been on my wish list as well for work days, and on an upcoming trip to London I’m planning to finally get myself a pair of MIISTA boots – like these Inne Brown Boots.

I have to admit, I like a lot of shoes. And moving from winter to spring means it’s time to dust off the sandals. I’m loving burgundy and darker reds lately and these A.Emery Turi sandals would be a great addition to my predominantly neutral footwear collection. I saw these St.Agni ballet flats and loved the macrame, so they are a wishlist item this month.

The last pair of shoes on my mind right now are these Arizona Birkenstocks. After a super unfortunate case of losing mine at the beach earlier this year, these will be glued to my feet in the warmer months.

When someone says shoes, my brain tends to only hear: ‘black leather boots’. I quite frankly often look ridiculous in anything else, however, that doesn’t mean a more sexy shoe doesn’t excite me. I love the heel on these Dries van Noten boots, the colour is delicious and inviting. In lieu of a pet, I’m pretty into thesefaux-fur pumps from Simone Rocha and these crystal ballerina beauties from Jil Sander are really singing to my inner child who wanted to be a ballerina-fairy-princess, but in a chic way. Lastly, it's a black leather boot, but it's a Loewe black leather boot…

While winter footwear translates to platform boots and a sturdy pair of Mary Janes without fail for me every year, the final quadrant of the year is a robust mix of kitten heels, square toed slingbacks, and often something impractical, in the orthotic sense. I will poach anything slinky, strappy, laced up, and vertically challenging. You will know when I am coming because you can hear the synchronised clopping from distance, and from afar.

These Y Project Grey Snap boots are the perfect layover to Summer, when Sydney is still nipping with wind. Miu Miu has engineered the patent leather slingback that will come home with me one day. But until that day comes, her blossom-toned sister from Tony Bianco will be the first new treat for Spring.

I’m on the hunt for a great little pair of heels, ideally black. My Depop saved page is at capacity with an array of vintage Prada, Margiela and very, very old Gucci styles. Alas, all are out of my budget as, like Em, I am practising restraint this month. I adore a square toe, this satin pair by Tony Bianco are quite perfect, these are great too.

One day, I will get myself a pair of Tabi’s. These are my favourite but I’m about 5 feet tall and need all of the help I can get. These are ideal. Whilst we are dreaming, I’m kind of obsessed with these chunky Chloe wedge sandals from PFW and though a bit silly, I love a furry shoe. These calf slip ons by Jil Sander are very good.

I've had five weddings this year, and alas, my one neutral pair of modest heels did not manage to survive - and they need replacing ahead of the two other weddings I have in November. I'm tossing up between these two St. Agni pairs, this pair with a wooden heel and this pair which is all leather. Also on their way to shoe heaven is my favourite pair of raffia slides from Posse. I've nearly worn through the sole completely. Since Posse doesn't seem to make them anymore, I found this Alias Mae pair instead. They're perfect. The other pair of summer shoes I'm hunting is this pair of The Row flip flops. Like every other person on the internet, I saw Kylie Jenner wearing them in Rome and fell in love. But of course they're now very sold out, so here's hoping for a restock!

I’ve had a pair of these Tony Bianco suede brown loafers on my list for a while, affordable, and comfortable(i’ve tried them on already..). And I stumbled upon these Khaite mesh loafers and thought they were incredibly cool, definitely a wishlist item. I also love to look on Vestiaire, Therealreal, and Depop for shoes too. And I do love the style and look of a tabi, I don’t know if I can commit to that style yet, which is what led me to these Sandy Liang’s slingbacks that are so beautiful. But I am still on the lookout for some Chanel Slingbacks too, second hand.
