Ahead of next week’s 2024 Emmy Awards, here’s a reminder of the nominations set to win big

'Shōgun' and 'The Bear' lead the 2024 Emmy nominations released overnight

Sometimes it's nice to look at a nominees list and see the shows, actors and crews you love get the flowers they deserve. And after waking up this morning to the 2024 Emmy nominations being released overnight, we're feeling extremely vindicated.

The list brims with history-making choices – like Lily Gladstone, Kali Reis, and D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai all being the first-ever Indigenous actors nominated in their respective categories, and Sofia Vergara being the first Latina nominated in the Lead Actress in a Limited Series category).

And of course, there are several critically acclaimed names and titles that had been overdue for recognition – Selena Gomez finally got a nod for her role in Only Murders and Hiroyuki Sanada getting his first Emmy nomination for Shōgun.

Despite Netflix leading nominations overall with 107 nominations, FX lead the way with the two most-nominated programs on the score board, Shōgun (with 25 nominations) and The Bear's second season (not far behind at 23).

When are the 2024 Emmys?

The 76th annual Emmy Awards will be broadcast live from downtown Los Angeles’ LA Live Peacock Theatre on Sunday 15 September.

Wait, didn't they already happen in January?

Not quite. The SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes last year forced the Television Academy to push last year's 2023 ceremony into January of this year — right in the middle of Oscar season.
