Gwyneth Paltrow joins Timothée Chalamet and Josh Safdie’s Ping Pong film ‘Marty Supreme’

No, this isn't Challengers. It's something with a little more speed, a little more agility, and a much, much smaller ball.

Timothée Chalamet is putting a topspin on top of his already illustrious acting repertoire – and now Oscar winner Gwyneth Paltrow (whose last on-screen movie role was in 2019) will be joining him at the helm of his latest A24 work-in-progress: Marty Supreme.

Last appearing in Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic Dune: Part Two and the confection-heavy ditz that was Wonka, Chalamet has been a rolling stone in the acting world. He's also on the precipice of releasing A Complete Unknown, alongside Elle Fanning, where Chalamet portrays a younger Bob Dylan. He's even doffed his parfum cap in Scorsese's CHANEL's Bleu De Chanel fragrance video campaign, across a starry-eyed Havana Rose Liu.

Now, he'll be portraying a sportsman of a different nature. The star will be taking on the role of Table Tennis Champion Marty Reisman. A bonafide hustler who played for bet money, Reisman would become the oldest player who won a national competition in a racket sport. Before the film airs, we've got lots of questions. How good is Chalamet's backspin? Who's behind the story? Will the star don Reisman's signature fedora and dark-tint aviators? And will we still be weirdly, lucratively attracted to him behind them? Lots to uncover. Below, all you need to know about the incoming film.

Who is involved in the making of the film?

Marty Supreme is written by Safdie and Ronald Bronstein, who produce alongside Eli Bush and Anthony Katagas. The film is a continuation of Safdie's work with A24, which distributed his last two films, Uncut Gems and Good Time. But this film marks his first solo directing gig since 2008.

When will the film be released?

There is nary a word regarding the film's release. The only promotional poster dropped on Twitter, featuring the title engraved on the side of a ping pong ball, confirming the star's portrayal of the athlete. We don't know when soon is, but we hope it won't be long. In the mean time, let's get blocking.
