Irish actor-of-the-moment Barry Keoghan – best known to you for either his Oscar-nominated performance in The Banshees of Inisherin or for that penultimate Saltburn scene that feels burned into our retinas –has been cast in Netflix’s upcoming Peaky Blinders feature film. Keoghan is set to join forces with the franchise's enigmatic lead, Cillian Murphy, in what feels like the most natural casting of the season (so natural in fact, I had to question whether Keoghan had already been in the show before...).

Who is cast in the film?

With Keoghan joining the lineup, the show's film adaptation is shaping up to be a good one. Series star, Murphy (that's newly minted Oscar-winner Cillian Murphy to you), is "definitely" returning to the role of Tommy Shelby for the Peaky Blinders feature film.

In addition to Murphy, we know that Dune's Rebecca Ferguson will also be joining the cast. Of course, we'd love to see some of the other OG cast members call a back for the film, like Paul Anderson, Tom Hardy, Finn Cole, Sam Claflin, Anya Taylor-Joy, Aidan Gillen, Sam Neill, Adrien Brody, Paddy Considine, Annabelle Wallis, and others.

 

What is the plot?

While plot details remain under wraps, Steven Knight has hinted that the film's story will be set during World War II. Production is expected to commence later this year, building anticipation for what promises to be an epic continuation of the Peaky Blinders legacy.

 

When will it be released?

Show creator, Knight, has already wrapped up the script, and has said in a recent interview that the plan was to begin filming the movie in September this year (in Digbeth, England). So, the film will likely have a tentative 2025 release date.

In the meantime, you can satiate yourself with all six seasons of Peaky Blinders, which you can stream on Netflix.

There's no confirmation just yet about where the feature film will premiere – or whether it will see a theatrical release, a streaming release globally via Netflix, or both.
