The works of eminent French interior designer Pierre Yovanovitch are travelling to Melbourne for an exhibition curated and hosted at Criteria. The gallery, which spotlights contemporary design, will be the first to debut the projects of Yovanovitch in Australia, and will receive a makeover by Yovanovitch himself to mark the occasion. In the past, Criteria has spotlighted the works of interior artists like Ben Mazey, Oko Olo, Ruth Allen and Claudia Lau.

The exhibition will provide a chance for Australian design stalwarts to encounter the French designer's most renown furniture, including the Mama Bear Armchair and Mindy Sofa, along with Yovanovitch's Roze Dining Table and sculptural Flare Lamp.

It will also offer attendees a unique look into Yovanovitch's design ethos and language, often referred to as his signature haute couture aesthetic, which was influenced by a career in menswear at Pierre Cardin and cultivated in the years since he first opened his Paris-based design atelier in 2001.

The announcements comes off the back of a big year for Yovanovitch and his studio. In December, the headquarters for Pierre Yovanovitch Mobilier New York – the designer's made-to-measure, craftsmanship-forward furniture brand – is set to open its doors. Meanwhile, back in October the designer unveiled his first gallery in the Marais, Paris, commemorating the occasion with a special anniversary collection of his Asymmetry Chair.
