We're not alone in thinking of Zoe Kravitz as our dream girl. For New Zealand musician Kimbra, the actor and musician serves as her personal beauty muse. Which tracks, as the two share similar approaches when it comes to beauty. Understated, natural, yet softly rock and roll, RUSSH spoke to Kimbra ahead of her performance at Vivid LIVE to discuss her pre-show rituals and why a little "buzzy thing" has become her ultimate beauty hack.
Describe what you do for a living? What does a typical day look like for you?
I'm a singer, songwriter, musician and producer. A typical day usually consists of some yoga, a walk with my dog, working on the music I'm finishing up, planning for upcoming shows and seeing a friend.
Walk me through your daily beauty routine from morning to evening.
In the morning I'll cleanse, apply vitamin C, moisturizer and sunscreen. In the evening I cleanse but often do it twice, the second time with a facial cleansing oil designed for removing makeup. Some nights I'll use a little retinol then a night time moisturizer overnight. I also like to use a gua sha stone in my nighttime routine for some relaxation.
What do you do when your body needs to recover?
I'll spend time in a park with trees, I often feel restored just being close to nature or sitting on grass. It really grounds me energetically.
You’re tired or rundown: what is your beauty hack?
I call it my buzzy thing because it sends little electrical currents around your face (like a mini workout for your face!) but the proper name is a PureLift tool. It just helps subtly sculpt the facial muscles when things are feeling a little tired.
What is the one non-negotiable in your beauty routine?
Sunscreen. I love EltaMD for this.
Do you have a beauty icon? Who are they and why?
Zoe Kravitz. I just think her beauty shines in a very natural, understated way while still being glam, classy and rock and roll.
What is the best advice on health you’ve received?
Drink water, often!
What is the one product you can’t live without?
SkinCeuticals Vitamin C serum.
Do you have any pre-show beauty rituals that will come into play for your Vivid LIVE performance?
Before applying makeup I like to do a good facial massage, either using gua sha or just with hands. This helps centre me and also to relax jaw muscles which get used a lot in performance.
